Parents have significant roles and responsibilities for their families. One of these roles and responsibilities is to teach their family members the concept of Islamic theodicy. In the Islamic akidah, Muslims trained that this world is not for the enjoyment of worldly pleasures but a place for Godly trials. These trials come in various shapes and forms towards realizing the Islamic theodicy. The word ‘theodicy’ literally means the justice of God. Correctly understanding and realizing Islamic theodicy is fundamental in ensuring one’s spiritual and mental health and well-being. The absence of understanding of this critical concept could cause a Muslim to be confused in facing life trials, especially in upholding one’s faith in believing the Qadā’ and Qadar, altogether in deducing God’s wisdom from the calamities faced. In the classical treatise Fawā’id Al-Balwā Wa Al-Miḥan by Al-ʿIzz ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz Ibn ʿAbd al-Salām, he listed seventeen benefits of life trials to the firm believers of God. These benefits are proofs from the Quranic verses, prophetic traditions, prophetic history, previous prophet’s histories, history of the companions, and Arabic poems. This article systematizes and describes the roles and responsibilities of the parent in educating Islamic theodicy through lessons found in Fawā’id Al-Balwā Wa Al-Miḥan.
