Abstract

Riba and gharar represent two critical elements that can render a transaction invalid from Shariah perspective. These elements can impact any exchange of goods or services, whether conducted in a physical setting or through digital platforms. This research paper delves into the issues surrounding riba and gharar in the context of digital applications involving currencies, gold, and cryptocurrencies. The study draws its insights from a review of secondary sources, including traditional Islamic texts, articles, and online references. The findings underscore that digital applications, even when dealing with currencies, gold, and other commodities, are not immune to the risks associated with riba and gharar. Consequently, it is imperative to ensure that digital transactions conducted through online platforms are free from riba and gharar, in order to establish comprehensive standards for emerging digital applications in the near future.
